Willa Cather admired the work of Sarah Orne Jewett and that is a high recommendation for me. I've started a new Willa Cather novel The Song of the Lark and I plan to follow it with The Country of the Pointed Firs.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has read Sarah Orne Jewett.

Alas, I'm like you — always intending to read it but never have. I liked the link and will be waiting to see what you have to say as well. The Girlebooks site is very interesting. It sent me to my own bookshelves where I discovered one of the titles I was curious about. So now I will have to add that to my list, too!
I'm so glad I stumbled across your lovely blog. I browsed through some of your recent posts and found many books that I am interested in reading. Would it be okay if I mention your blog in one of posts? Take care~
I haven't read either author, thought I want/ ought to read both. I'll await your review of Jewett with interest.
Like yourself, this has always been on my TBR list. One of my favourite bloggers (Zhiv) had a series of posts on Sarah Orne Jewett a while ago you might be interested in eg http://zhiv.wordpress.com/2008/08/11/a-leisurely-read-through-sarah-orne-jewett/
Linda, I can't wait to read it, but my local bookseller seemed a bit doubtful about its availability.
Protector of Vintage (great name!) I've enjoyed browsing through your blog. Some great posts.
Tara, Willa Cather is a wonderful writer. I recommend My Antonia or The Professor's House to start with.
Sarah, thank you so much for the link. I'm checking this out right now!

I really loved TCoPF and want to read more SOJ. That is a great link you posted, Sarah. I hadn't heard of many of the writers she mentioned, and they look good!
