I wasn't going to buy any books this month ...

... but I happened to be in a bookstore yesterday and I spotted Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson. I've wanted to read it since I read her wonderful novel Gilead last year and I'm in the mood for American writing at the moment. I'll let you know how I get on ...

Housekeeping is one of my all-time favourites. It is so beautifully written.

I bought Gilead when it came out. Haven't read it yet, but that didn't stop me from buying Home last week. I just can't imagine being disappointed by any of her books.

lethe, it is beautifully written, I'm restricting myself to a chapter a night because I don't want it to end. I loved Gilead, too. Isn't Home the sequel? I'm going to put it on Santa's list!

I always try to restrict myself to buying only xx amount of books per month, but everytime I enter the bookstore I come out holding at least one new acquisition :)

I have these two in my pile too. I did listen to Gilead on CD but I want to read it too. Love the sound of her writing.

Hi Monica. I bought Home at the weekend and I'm saving it to read over the Christmas break. Can't wait! Nicola
